TURTLES RESCUE PROJECT

In June 2021, volunteers from the New England Herpetological Society (NEHS) applied for and received a permit from Massachusetts Division of  Fisheries and Wildlife to trap and relocate the Butler's Pond resident turtles before the dredging project starts in September. Under the supervision of Quincy's Department of Natural Resource and assistance from Friends of Butler's Pond, the turtles of Butler's Pond have been temporarily relocated to the New England Wildlife Center in late August 2021 then returned to the pond on April 23rd, 2022.  Special thanks to Zoo New England Conservation Society for lending hoop nets to NEHS volunteers to safely trap the turtles for relocation.
