Since its founding on October 21st, 2009 by local residents, Friends of Butler’s Pond (FOBP) has been working in partnership with the City of Quincy, developers and property owners in the pond watershed area on a long range, multi-stage program to reverse the deteriorating condition of the pond and to restore and preserve it as an attractive community resource.
Over the past decade, with the support of City of Quincy, FOBP has led the efforts on the pond's environmental studies, removal and controlling re-growth of invasive weeds, thinning of trees, planting of native species, designing and installing of pond signage and benches, organizing semi-annual pond clean-up events, obtaining permits for pond sediment removal to reverse eutrophication and construction of gravel wetland to improve urban stormwater and sediment filtration.
Through our blogs, newsletters, website, Facebook, and community events, FOBP informs the community of issues, projects and events concerning the Pond, which is of tremendous importance to its neighboring residents.
