A Poem for Butler's Pond

Written by Fushuang Li

Butler Pond

(I will be moving away from Butler's Pond, which I've visited daily for the past three years.  Will miss our many days together.)

Come see the enchanting morning at Butler's Pond.

Just amble by quietly, the pond baths in the morning light,

Where descending blossoms lull the waves.

Wild ducks still asleep on the banks.

All the while, a red dragonfly

Landed on a turtle's shell.

A giant frog croaks-Woa...Woa...Woa...Woa...

On the other side of the pond.

You can also run,

Gracefully gliding over the

Aster, Dandelions and Clover,

At the banks that are enveloped

By the shadows of the trees,

Where squirrels dash by.

Tap-tap. Tap-tap.

The Woodpecker is not far away.

You cease running and

Take in a deep breath.

There’s the light, the mist, and

The aura of floral scent.

The Maple oaks and Locust trees

Whisper in the wind.

Whoosh, whoosh,

Swish, swish.

Is it time for you to go?

Don’t forget to look back and cherish.

Recall the laughter and the fine memories

That belongs solely to you.

"Be well, I will come back to visit you."

Butler
